Finishing Oak With Shellac
finishing oak with shellac
Shellac can result in a high-gloss finish. a mirror-like glossy shellac finish is achieved by french polishing. if you prefer a less glossy, satin finish, buff out the final coat with 0000 steel wool and a non-silicon based paste wax. lightly work the wax over the finish until it's thoroughly covered.. The second most frequent problem we see, is lack of finishing. oak needs to be finished with very fine sandpaper like 280 or 320 grit in order for it to look nice when the final finishes are applied. the sanding process, particularly with finer grits will also create sawdust that will linger in the open-grain of the oak.. Shellac is widely used for sealing oak. one increasingly popular method for finishing oak is to apply an oil stain followed by a coat of shellac to seal the stain. then fill any blemishes with a grain filler paste, followed by a gel stain. the final finish is a few coats of polyurethane.. finishing oak with shellac

Finishing floors with bulls eye shellac. apply a coat of 2-lb. shellac using a brush to cut in corners and edges. apply shellac to main body of the floor using a lambs' wool applicator following the grain of the wood. apply shellac to 2 or 3 board widths at a time, laying the product down in a smooth, even brushing motion..
